‘Post Roe? Hell no.’ Abortion rights activists march in downtown L.A.
Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights volunteer Daniela Estevez, 21, of Pasadena, said she is working to collect letters from women in Mexico, Chile and Argentina who can encourage and advise Americans as they fight to improve access to abortion.
“They know what it’s like to live in a country where abortion at the federal level is not legal,” Estevez said. The goal, she said, is to “build international solidarity.”
Estevez carried a cardboard sign that bore the words “Que tiemble el estado,” or “Let the state tremble,” the opening lyrics of a folk song that became an anthem for Latin American women protesting femicide and abortion restrictions.

Daniela Estévez, organizadora de la protesta en Venice con el grupo Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights, no creyó que había mucho que celebrar el 4 de julio en un país que “está atacando descaradamente” los derechos humanos de las mujeres.
“Como activista mexicoamericana, me gustaría que Estados Unidos aprenda de América Latina, que lo tome como modelo y que tenga solidaridad con nuestras hermanas afectadas”, dijo la activista.
Estevez dijo que en el muelle de la playa de Venice presentaron un proyecto mediante cartas enviadas de mujeres de Latinoamérica que han participado en la Ola Verde para dar a conocer sus testimonios.
Se le conoce como Ola Verde al movimiento y color verde, que comenzaron mujeres en países como Argentina, Colombia y México abogando por el derecho al aborto.
“Algunas de las cartas son de mujeres que han tenido abortos”, dijo Estévez. “Todas ellas son mujeres que han participado concretamente en las marchas de la ola verde”.
